FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. – The Falcons’ selected running back/return specialist Marcus Green in the sixth round out of the University of Louisiana Monroe in the sixth round.
Green returned 70 kicks for 1,761 yards and four touchdowns and 28 punt returns for 280 yards in four years at ULM. The Falcons have been without a dangerous return threat since Andre Roberts in the 2017 season. Green will look to fill that role and give Atlanta an electric return option.
Here are five things to know about Green:
1. His mom is professional recording artist
Green’s mom, RheaKesha Vaughn, is a professional recording artist. She’s contemporary gospel artist and her music can be found on Spotify – RheaKesha Vaughn and the 23rd Psalms.
2. He plays the drums
Creating music runs in the family. One of Green’s hobbies is to play the drums at church.
3. He is the lone player to be drafted from the Sun Belt Conference this year
Give credit where it’s due. Green was the only player to be drafted out of the Sun Belt Conference this year.
4. In good company
Green was on a mission during the 2017 season.
He finished fourth in the FBS with 1,981 all-purpose yards. The only three players with more all-purpose yards were San Diego State's Rashaad Penny (2,974), Penn State's Saquon Barkley (2,329) and Stanford's Bryce Love (1,981).
I’d say that’s a good group to be associated with, right?
5. He can hoop
Green was so talented at basketball he made the varsity time in the eighth grade. He is the all-time leading scorer at North Pontotoc.
