Atlanta Falcons adjust roster ahead of game vs. New Orleans Saints

The organization places Billy Bowman Jr., Zach Harrison on injured reserve.

FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. — In the wake of injuries to key players on the Atlanta Falcons' squad, the team has made the following roster moves ahead of its trip to New Orleans to face the Saints:

  • Placed defensive back Billy Bowman Jr. (achilles) and defensive lineman Zach Harrison (knee) on injured reserve.
  • Activated inside linebacker Divine Deablo as well as signed cornerback Cobee Bryant to the 53-man roster,.
  • Used a standard practice squad elevation on safety Jammie Robinson and wide receiver Dylan Drummond
  • Updated linebacker Malik Verdon's game status to out, and removed Deablo's questionable game designation.

Head coach Raheem Morris said Bowman suffered the achilles injury during the team's Friday walk through. When asked for more detail, Morris confirmed the injury was not going to be good news and immediately ruled him out of Sunday's game.

That same day, Morris said Harrison had experienced a setback in the knee injury he has been dealing with the last month. Morris said he expected Harrison to need to get the injury "fixed."

In those vacated spots on the 53-man roster will be Deablo and Bryant. This will mark the first time Deablo has been back in action with Atlanta since he fractured a bone in his forearm in the team's Week 7 loss to the San Francisco 49ers. Deablo has been on injured reserve since. His 21-day window to return from injured reserve opened just this week, with Morris saying early on that the expectation was to see Deablo activated for this Sunday's game in New Orleans.

Bryant got his first taste of NFL football last week in the team's Week 11 loss to the Carolina Panthers. He was a standard practice squad elevation after the Falcons ruled fellow cornerbacks Mike Hughes and Dee Alford out with injuries. Both Hughes and Alford were cleared to play this weekend, but as Bowman heads to IR, Bryant will backfill depth in the secondary. The undrafted free agent from Kansas took 11 defensive snaps last week, coming up with a big third-down stop in the third quarter that was followed up with a turnover on downs in the red zone a play later.

Finally, the Falcons have elevated Robinson and Drummond to the active roster, the latter likely to accommodate better depth at receiver with Drake London out with a knee injury.

This is Robinson's second consecutive elevation (Week 11 and 12) and Drummond's third overall (Week 8, 9 and 12).

Reminder: Every team can elevate two players from the practice squad to the active roster for each game day. A player is allowed three elevations per season. A fourth elevation would require the player to be signed to the 53-man roster. Drummond officially falls into that category following his third elevation.
