FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. — In a surprise turn of events, Atlanta Falcons defensive back Billy Bowman Jr. popped up on the team's injury report Friday with an Achilles injury. He was ruled out by head coach Raheem Morris for Sunday's game against the New Orleans Saints.
Morris said the injury occurred Friday morning during the team's walk through and that the injury was "not good" in the moment. He didn't have any more information beyond that on Bowman's status as he continues to receive medical evaluations.
Dee Alford cleared concussion protocol so he is slated to start at nickel. Mike Hughes also returns to the starting lineup after missing the last two games with a neck injury.
Bowman joins players like receiver Drake London and defensive lineman Zach Harrison in the group officially ruled out of Sunday's game. Both London and Harrison have knee injuries. London is considered "week-to-week" with a PCL sprain, whereas Morris said Harrison "will have to get it fixed," referring to Harrison's knee injury.
Meanwhile, offensive guards Chris Lindstrom and Matthew Bergeron were listed as questionable for Sunday's game. Bergeron has missed the team's last two games. And even though Lindstrom has been on the team's injury report for weeks, he has suited up for every game this year, working through a foot injury on the fly.
Likely the only good news the Falcons could really report Friday was about inside linebacker Divine Deablo, who was listed as questionable and not officially ruled out. He has been a full participant in the last two Falcons' practices. Deablo was not originally given a game designation. His status was updated to questionable shortly thereafter because players in the 21-day injured reserve return window have to be listed that way until they're activated to the 53-man roster. Given Morris' comments Friday, though, one could speculate that activation is coming sooner rather than later.
(Editor's note: This story was updated at 2:40 p.m. ET to account for the change to Deablo's game designation).
