Dan Quinn on kicker Giorgio Tavecchio: 'We've got great trust in him'

ATLANTA – Giorgio Tavecchio missed two 52-yard field goal attempts on Thursday night in Atlanta's 22-10 loss to the New York Jets.

While every kicker aims for perfection every time they step on the field, Tavecchio didn't seem overly concerned about the back-to-back misses. His first attempt was in fact tipped, as Falcons coach Dan Quinn confirmed following the game.

"I think it's a little frustrating," Tavecchio said following the game. "I just need to be a little more precise from deep. I felt good on the rhythm, I felt good striking the ball, I just need to put them through."

If there is a time for missed field goals to occur, it's during the preseason.

"This is the time to work out the kinks," Tavecchio said.

Quinn's reaction, similar to Tavecchio's, wasn't one of panic. Tavecchio's track record speaks for itself and although two misses in a preseason game isn't ideal, no one is losing confidence over it.

Tavecchio played in three games for the Falcons in 2018 while filling in for and injured Matt Bryant and was a perfect 5-for-5 on field goals attempts. He was also 8-for-8 on extra points.

"When we brought him in last year, he really came through," Quinn said. "And we know he's had a good camp. We've got great trust in him."
