FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. — The Atlanta Falcons signed veteran linebacker Josh Woods from their practice squad to their 53-man roster on Monday evening.
To make room for Woods, the team has placed third-year linebacker JD Bertrand on the reserve/injured list. Bertrand is eligible to return to the Falcons' active roster after missing at least four games, and he would use one of the team's eight designated-to-return options.
Woods has spent the past two seasons in Atlanta and has become a core special teams player. He played on 82% of possible special teams snaps during the 12 games he was active last season and registered 14 total tackles. Woods first entered the league in 2019 as an undrafted free agent for the Chicago Bears. He has played for four different teams in his seven NFL seasons, compiling 137 tackles, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery.
With this transaction, the Falcons' active roster remains at 53 players. By signing Woods to the active roster, however, the Falcons now have two available spots on their 16-man practice squad.
