Atlanta Falcons coach Dan Quinn announced Monday that rookie guard Chris Lindstrom will be placed on injured reserve after suffering a foot injury during the team's 28-12 loss to the Minnesota Vikings.

Lindstrom, who the Falcons selected in the first round of April's NFL Draft, will be eligible to be designated for return later this season. Per NFL rules, the earliest a player may begin practicing with the team is six weeks after he is placed on IR. In Lindstrom's case, that would be in Week 8. A player is eligible to return to game action eight weeks after landing on IR, so the earliest Lindstrom could play in a game for Atlanta would be in Week 10 at New Orleans.
With Lindstrom going on IR, the team has agreed to terms with veteran lineman John Wetzel. Wetzel spent the preseason with the Falcons, so he has familiarity with the offensive line. Wetzel started five games for the Arizona Cardinals last season, and he has started 24 games throughout his four-year NFL career.
