FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. — The Atlanta Falcons are working through a slew of injuries that will see prominent players sidelined for the team's Week 12 road game against the New Orleans Saints.
The team placed quarterback Michael Penix Jr. on injured reserve Wednesday with a partially torn ACL in his left knee. He will undergo surgery at a later date and will be done for the season.
"We'll have Kirk (Cousins), obviously, he's our starting quarterback, going out there and playing for us," head coach Raheem Morris said. "We'll sign Easton Stick to the active roster, get him acclimated and all the things that we gotta get done for him to get on an active roster. And we'll sign Kyle Trask to our practice squad, bringing him in (Wednesday), doing some of those things to move forward, to continue the rest of the season in order to go find a way to get a win, get a win this week."
Penix was listed on Wednesday's injury report as a non-participant despite being placed on injured reserve prior to the start of practice. This is because he was still on the active roster at the start of the "league day." He will not be on the rest of the injury reports moving forward.
Morris also gave an update on wide receiver Drake London's status as well. He originally said earlier this week that the starting receiver was "week to week" with a knee injury he sustained late in the fourth quarter of last Sunday's loss to the Carolina Panthers. Morris added Wednesday that he does not expect London to play this weekend in New Orleans.
"Yeah, usually when I say week to week, I mean, hopefully next week," Morris said. "I don't think he'll be going this week."
London did not practice in the team's first practice of the week. Morris also confirmed reports that London's knee injury was to his PCL.
In other injury news, the Falcons did see the return of inside linebacker Divine Deablo to practice, with his 21-day window opening up to be promoted back to the active roster. Deablo was placed on injured reserve with a fracture in his forearm four weeks ago. The expectation is the Falcons could see Deablo return to playing form as early as this weekend in New Orleans, barring any setbacks.
"Assuming everything goes well," Morris said Monday, "he should be back playing."
Deablo was a limited participant in Wednesday's practice. He was seen wearing a club/cast on his left arm.
