Falcons injury report: A.J. Terrell ruled out for second consecutive game

Atlanta is set to host the Washington Commanders at Mercedes-Benz Stadium this Sunday.

FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. — The Atlanta Falcons will be without starting cornerback A.J. Terrell for the second consecutive game as he has been ruled out of Week 4's matchup with the Washington Commanders. Terrell suffered a hamstring injury in the second quarter of the team's Week 2 win over the Minnesota Vikings. Dee Alford has been the next man up in Terrell's absence.

"I thought he did an excellent job, to tell you the truth. I really did," defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich said about Alford this week. "He battled his butt off. I thought he played at a really high level. I thought both corners did. I thought Mike Hughes played exceptionally well, too. They were definitely, in my opinion, the brighter spots of that game. And I know it's hard to find brightness in a 30-nothing game. But if there were bright spots, it would have been those two.

"...The times (Alford) was targeted, he battled. He got the ball out. I was extremely happy with the way Dee played."

The expectation is Alford will continue to take those reps opposite Hughes until Terrell comes back, which could be after the team's Week 5 bye. Meanwhile, wide receiver Casey Washington has been cleared to play after working through the league's concussion protocol the last few weeks.

In other injury report news, it was actually the Washington Commanders with the biggest news of the day. Quarterback Jayden Daniels' knee injury will sideline him for a second-straight game as he was officially ruled out Friday for Sunday's game. This means Marcus Mariota — who quarterbacked the Falcons in 2022 — will return to Mercedes-Benz Stadium this Sunday, leading the Commanders offense as their starter.
