ATLANTA — The Atlanta Falcons are actively searching for their president of football after Owner and Chairman Arthur M. Blank announced on Jan. 5 that the position would be created amid an organizational restructure.

"The leader in this new role will set the vision and identity for our team," Blank wrote in a letter shared with fans. "Our new head coach and general manager will report to the new president of football, and they will work collaboratively as a football leadership team on all football decisions. Final decision-making authority will rest with the president of football."

Current role: Disner has been the chief operating officer for the Detroit Lions since 2022.

Resume highlights:

  • Disner has been a respected executive for various NFL organizations for the last two decades. Before becoming the Lions' chief operating officer, Disner was the team's senior vice president of football and business administration. He has been with the Detroit organization for the last seven seasons.
  • He began his career as an intern with the New England Patriots before moving to work with the Arizona Cardinals for six seasons as director of football administration. In that role, Disner's responsibilities included contract negotiations, salary cap management and strategic planning.
  • Disner also spent four years at the NFL Management Council, one year as labor operations manager in 2012 and three years prior as a labor operations coordinator.
  • Was part of the Lions' leadership group that oversaw the hirings of general manager Brad Holmes and head coach Dan Campbell, and successfully connected business strategy with football operations.

Why he's a candidate: According to the Detroit Lions' official website, Disner "assumes responsibilities across both the football and business management teams, overseeing the organization's football operations and football administration, as well as leading the Lions' strategy and revenue teams."

This role aligns with owner Arthur Blank's expressed expectations for the president of football role in Atlanta: To be a decision-maker and liaison between the incoming head coach, general manager and ownership. This person will also work collaboratively with Falcons President and CEO Greg Beadles to ensure the team's football and business operations are appropriately aligned, something Disner has successfully done in his current role with the Lions.

The Lions noted Disner's leadership "has helped establish a supportive and efficient working relationship between the football and business operations that has led to more creative opportunities to enhance the Lions' brand."
