2025 NFL Schedule: Falcons to play Colts in Germany

The Atlanta Falcons have been chosen to play in one of the NFL’s international games in 2025

FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. — The Atlanta Falcons have been chosen to play in one of the NFL's international games in 2025 and will face the Indianapolis Colts on Nov. 9 at the Olympic Stadium in Berlin, the league announced Tuesday.

Kickoff is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. ET, which is 3:30 p.m. locally in Berlin. All action will air live on NFL Network.

The historic venue, which was built for the 1936 Summer Olympics, has hosted four NFL exhibition games. This will be its first-ever, regular-season event.

"We are definitely excited and proud to take part in the first-ever NFL regular-season game in Berlin, and look forward to seeing Atlanta Falcons fans from Germany, and across the globe, in November," Atlanta Falcons president Greg Beadles said. "Long before taking part in the NFL's Global Markets Program, we saw and felt the passion for the Falcons from our dedicated German fans, including a number who have made trips to Mercedes-Benz Stadium, and to our games across the U.S. and our previous international games. We look forward to experiencing the German culture and the fandom that has made Germany an important part of the NFL's growth and future."

As the home team, the Colts learned in January that they would play overseas at Olympic Stadium. However, further details, such as the team they would face, remained unknown until now.

Atlanta was granted international marketing rights in Germany in 2023. This international game will mark the Falcons' fourth in the regular season, having already played in London three times – 2014, 2021 and 2023.

This marks the second time the Falcons will face the Colts on international grounds. The two teams previously met for a preseason game in Tokyo, Japan, in 2005. The Falcons beat the Colts 27-21 in that game with both Michael Vick and Peyton Manning playing the full first quarter.

The NFL held its first regular-season game outside of the United States that same year when the Arizona Cardinals and San Francisco 49ers played at Estadio Azteca in Mexico City. Then, in 2007, the International Series was launched, as the New York Giants and Miami Dolphins played at Wembley Stadium in London. And the NFL’s efforts to expand its reach have only amplified since.

Through the 2024 season, there have been 36 games in London, four in Mexico City and three in Germany.

The Falcons strengthened their connection to Germany this offseason when they signed German-born kicker Lenny Krieg. Krieg played for the Stuttgart Surge in the Europeaon Football League before Atlanta signed him following an impressive workout at the NFL Combine.

"Now it's official! We are looking forward to the NFL's premiere at the Olympiastadion in Berlin with the Atlanta Falcons and the already announced home team, the Indianapolis Colts," Berlin's Senator for Sports Iris Spranger said in a statement. "The Falcons have a true Berliner on their team in kicker Lenny Krieg. We will welcome him just as warmly as our NFL hero Björn Werner, who previously played for the Colts. Today's announcement by the NFL underscores once again that Berlin and the NFL are a perfect match."

The rest of the Falcons' 17-game schedule will be released May 14.
