Kyle Pitts dealing with injury, Falcons taking 'extremely cautious' approach

Pitts was absent from the Falcons’ first open practice last Tuesday but has been involved with the team off the field.

FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. — Tight end Kyle Pitts Sr. is dealing with an undisclosed injury as the Atlanta Falcons begin their second week of OTAs, head coach Raheem Morris said Monday.

Pitts was absent from the Falcons' first open practice last Tuesday, and that will continue to be the case when it comes to on-field work. Morris declined to specify what type of injury Pitts has. However, reports have surfaced this offseason that his foot is the issue.

"Extremely cautious with Kyle right now and what he's got going on," Morris said. "Obviously you don't talk about injuries this time of year, but definitely being cautious with him. You won't see him. He's been here. He's done such a great job of all the stuff that we've asked of him. He's been in every single meeting. He's been in every single thing that we've done other than the field. And he's been absolutely outstanding to be around."

Falcons quarterback Michael Penix Jr. said last Tuesday he has thrown with Pitts this offseason, further confirming Pitts' presence and involvement.

The Falcons used the No. 4 overall draft pick on Pitts in 2021. As a rookie, he totaled 1,026 yards receiving, with one touchdown. A season-ending knee injury in 2022 halted that trajectory of success. Since then, the most he has produced is 667 yards receiving in 2023. He had a career-high four touchdowns in 2024.

"I am expecting Kyle to take a big jump in Year 2 of the system," Falcons offensive coordinator Zac Robinson said. "Year 2 of understanding what we are trying to do offensively, all those things that come with it. ... I am pumped for Kyle. Can't wait to get on the field with him and its going to be a lot of fun to see his growth."
