Falcons' safety Damontae Kazee ejected from game for illegal hit on Panthers' Cam Newton

ATLANTA – Safety Damontae Kazee has been ejected for an illegal hit on Panthers' quarterback Cam Newton on Sunday at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

On fourth-and-4, Newton rushed for 10 yards. As he slid to the ground, Kazee hit Newton in the head. The helmet-to-helmet hit forced Newton to head to the sidelines. Panthers receiver Torrey Smith was also penalized on the play for retaliating but was not ejected.

Newton returned to the field on the next play and led the Panthers to their first touchdown of the game.

Kazee got the start at free safety as Ricardo Allen started at strong safety in place of injured Keanu Neal.
