The Atlanta Falcons today announced that they have agreed to terms with defensive end Osi Umenyiora on a two-year contract. The terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Umenyiora, 6-3, 255 pounds, was originally selected by the New York Giants in the second round (56th overall) of the 2003 NFL Draft. He played in 16 games with four starts and posted 55 total tackles (33 solo) with six sacks, five tackles for loss, and one forced fumble in 2012.
Named to the Pro Bowl in 2005 and 2007, Umenyiora has tallied 430 total tackles (155 solo) with 75 sacks 31 forced fumbles and 13 fumble recoveries in 129 games over his 10 year career. He is a two-time Super Bowl Champion, helping the Giants win titles in Super Bowl XLII and Super Bowl XLVI. Since 2003, Umenyiora's 75 career sacks rank ninth in the NFL. He was named a First Team All-Pro by the Associated Press in 2005 and a Second Team All-Pro in 2010. Umenyiora set an NFL record with 10 forced fumbles in 2010 and a Giants franchise record for sacks in a single game with six sacks in a 2007 win over the Philadelphia Eagles.
