Facts on Tap Week 3

STATS TO CHEERS OVER

-- Falcons running back Bijan Robinson totaled 111 yards from scrimmage.

  • That puts him at an NFL-high 21 games with 100-plus yards from scrimmage since entering the league in 2023.
  • Robinson is the first Falcons running back to start a season with three consecutive games of 100-or-more yards from scrimmage since Williams Andrews in 1983.
  • Sunday marked Robinson's ninth game in a row with at least 90 yards from scrimmage, which is the longest active streak in the NFL.

-- Safety DeMarcco Hellams recovered a muffed punt in the first quarter, giving the Falcons three muffed punt recoveries since the start of the 2024 season. That is tied for most in the NFL with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

-- Quarterback Michael Penix Jr. was intercepted at the 11:46 mark in the third quarter. He had thrown 84 consecutive pass attempts prior to that moment since the start of the season. That's good for the fourth-longest streak in Atlanta history. Michael Vick holds the longest streak of 143 consecutive pass attempts to start the 2002 season.

-- Inside linebacker Kaden Elliss recorded a sack and nine tackles. That gives him 10 games since 2022 with at least a sack and seven tackles, which ties him with Tampa Bay Buccaneers outside linebacker Lavonte David, Washington Commanders outside linebacker Frankie Luvu and New Orleans Saints inside linebacker Demario Davis for most in the NFL.

-- Filling in for starting cornerback A.J. Terrell Jr., who was inactive due to a hamstring injury, Dee Alford had a game-high two passes defensed. That tied his single-game high. He's now at six career games with more than one pass defensed.

FACTS TO SIP ON

-- Atlanta was the victim of the NFL's first shutout of the 2025 season.

  • The Falcons' streak of consecutive road games with at least one point ends at 78. It began on Dec. 20, 2015 and ended Sunday. Their longest streak remains at 91 games from Dec. 26, 2004 to Dec. 6, 2015.
  • The last time the Falcons were shut out by an opponent was Week 11 of the 2021 season, when they lost to the New England Patriots, 25-0. The last time Atlanta was shut out on the road was Week 14 of 2015 when it lost to the then-undefeated Panthers, 38-0.
  • The last time the Panthers shut out an opponent by at least 30 points was that same Week 14 game in 2015 against the Falcons. The last time Carolina shut out an opponent overall was Week 11 of 2020 when it beat the Detroit Lions, 20-0.

-- Through three games, the Falcons haven't had a wide receiver or tight end catch a touchdown pass. The only passing touchdown so far was a 50-yarder from quarterback Michael Penix Jr. to Robinson in Week 1. Otherwise, Penix and running back Tyler Allgeier have one rushing touchdown apiece.

-- The Falcons (332) outgained the Panthers (224) by 108 yards. The last team to outgain its opponent by 100-plus yards while losing by at least 30 points in a shutout was the Miami Dolphins in Week 7 of the 1970 season against the Baltimore Colts. The Dolphins had 144 more yards but lost, 35-0.

-- The Falcons' 332 total net yards were the most ever in a game where they were held scoreless. The previous high was 271 total net yards in Week 5 of 1993 when Atlanta lost to the Chicago Bears, 6-0.

-- Panthers kicker Ryan Fitzgerald made a 57-yard field goal in the second quarter. That tied six others for the second longest ever against the Falcons. Seattle Seahawks kicker Jason Myers' 59-yarder in Week 7 of the 2024 season stands as the longest.

QUOTING RAHEEM MORRIS

On the loss overall…

"Very humbling game. … This week, we rode the emotional rollercoaster, and we were down."

QUOTING THE FALCONS

Running back Bijan Robinson

On whether he was surprised about Sunday's outcome…

"I was surprised, man. I didn't want to lose by 30 today. Obviously, nobody did. But it happened. I believe this can either break a team or make a team. For us, this needs to make this team."

Safety Jessie Bates III

On how the team bounces back from this loss…

"It wasn't good enough. We know we're a better team than that, and unfortunately it didn't show today. We're a tight group. We win together; we lose together. We got to stick together. It's only Week 3. This game is not going to define who we are as a group, and we know that. So, just keep moving forward."

QUOTING THE OPPONENT

Panthers head coach Dave Canales

On opening up at home with a divisional win…

"I have a lot of respect for the Falcons, for the group that they have over there. I think that they have a lot of talent. We took advantage of some of the mistakes (Sunday), and that's the way it played out. But going into this game throughout the week in our prep, this is a team that we really respect. I respect Raheem Morris to the utmost and the schemes that they run on defense and on offense. And so, I just got to give credit to those guys, but also our guys just executing the plan and having that discipline to come out in the second half and then continue with the plan."
