Zane Gonzalez named NFC Special Teams Player of the Week

The kicker was responsible for 13 of the Falcons' 19 points to beat the Saints.

FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. — Atlanta Falcons kicker Zane Gonzalez has been named NFC Special Teams Player of the Week, the NFL announced Wednesday.

This honor comes after the Falcons' Week 18 win against the New Orleans Saints and marks Gonzalez's second time receiving the recognition. He previously received it after the Falcons’ Week 12 win, which, oddly enough, was also against the Saints.

Last Sunday, Gonzalez made four field goals and an extra point to provide 13 of the Falcons' 19 points. His kicks were good from 51 and 40 yards and twice from 38 yards.

It was the sixth time in his career that he made four field goals in a single game. The most he has ever attempted was five with the Arizona Cardinals in 2019; however, he missed one.

Gonzalez also handled kickoff duties for the Falcons last Sunday. He averaged 58 yards per boot and had two of his six kicks result in touchbacks.

The Falcons signed Gonzalez on Nov. 5. He was their third kicker to make the active roster in 2025 after Younghoe Koo and Parker Romo were both signed and released due to inconsistent play. Koo missed a game-tying field goal in the Falcons' Week 1 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Romo missed a game-tying extra point in the Falcons' Week 9 loss to the New England Patriots.

After arriving in Atlanta, Gonzalez made 19 of his 22 field-goal attempts – good for an 86.4% success rate. His longest kick was a 56-yarder in the first Saints game. It was a yard short of his career-long distance.

Gonzalez also made all but one of his 18 extra-point attempts and contributed on 38 kickoffs with 12 touchbacks.

He is set to become a free agent when the new league year begins on March 11.
