NFL Power Rankings Week 8: Colts emerge on top, Falcons falter on "Sunday Night Football"

Plus, the Steelers fall significantly after losing to Joe Flacco.

FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. — Joe Flacco is back.

No, this is not the lede I thought I would be writing at any point in 2025. But here we are.

We've got a lot to break down coming out of Week 7. We have a new No. 1, a significant drop for a former top-10 team and a some notable movement (five or more spots) for the Lions, Patriots and Cowboys. Let's get to it.

Power Rankings 16x9
(6-1)
1
1
Colts_table
Indianapolis Colts
Week 7 result: Beat the Los Angeles Chargers, 38-24

I keep questioning if the Colts are true contenders this year but they keep winning. So, it begs the question if I should stop questioning. So many questions.

(5-2)

4
Lions_table
Detroit Lions
Week 7 result: Beat the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, 24-9

What a performance by this Lions bunch, particularly the defense. Baker Mayfield has made defenses look a little silly in 2025, but Detroit had him from the jump.

(5-2)
3
Seahawks_table
Seattle Seahawks
Week 7 result: Beat the Houston Texans, 27-19

No change for Seattle in this week's rankings because they did what they were supposed to do at Lumen Field against a lesser opponent.

(5-2)
4
49ers_table
San Francisco 49ers
Week 7 result: Beat the Atlanta Falcons, 20-10

After a loss to Tampa in Week 6 — one that involved serious issues running the ball — the 49ers and Christian McCaffrey came with a vengeance vs. the Falcons on "Sunday Night Football."

(5-2)
5
Rams_table
Los Angeles Rams
Week 7 result: Beat the Jacksonville Jaguars, 35-7

The Rams crossed just as many time zones to get to London as they scored touchdowns against the Jaguars in London. No this is not serious, but they did score a lot and traveled even farther.

(5-2)
6
5
Bucs_table
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Week 7 result: Lost to the Detroit Lions, 24-9

The Bucs had to come down from on high eventually. It just took a Monday night brawl with the Lions to knock them off. There are way worse losses these week, though.

(5-2)
7
5
Eagles.png
Philadelphia Eagles
Week 7 result: Beat the Minnesota Vikings, 28-22

Did the Eagles get their mojo back? Unsure. But they have a chance at swift and quick revenge against the Giants next week, though. That'll be one to watch.

(5-2)
8
4
Broncos_table
Denver Broncos
Week 7 result: Beat the New York Giants, 33-32

33 points in the fourth quarter. That's actually insane.

(4-2)
9
4
Bills_table
Buffalo Bills
Week 7 result: BYE WEEK

The Bills lost two in a row prior to their bye last week. They have some making up to do.

(5-2)
10
6
Patriots_table
New England Patriots
Week 7 result: Beat the Tennessee Titans, 31-13

Normally beating a sub-top-20 team wouldn't put you in the top-10, but I like the way this Patriots offense is moving and grooving right now. They're playing like a top-10 offense.

(4-1-1)
11
6
Packers_table
Green Bay Packers
Week 7 result: Beat the Arizona Cardinals, 27-23

Another big jump for a team that didn't really have a super impressive win against a lesser opponent. However, the Cardinals haven't lost by a margin of four very much this season so that's actually some kudos to the Packers.

(4-3)
12
2
Chargers_table
Los Angeles Chargers
Week 7 result: Lost to the Indianapolis Colts, 38-24

Couldn't drop the Chargers too far because as I said in the Colts' column... they are legit contenders now.

(4-2)
13
4
Bears_table
Chicago Bears
Week 7 result: Beat the New Orleans Saints, 26-14

Truth be told, I may be pushing the Bears too far up this ranking this week. They've got the Ravens on deck so, honestly, they may be here for a couple weeks if they do what they should.

(4-3)
14
5
Jaguars_table
Jacksonville Jaguars
Week 7 result: Lost to the Los Angeles Rams, 35-7

The Jacksonville offense was anemic in London. Maybe they are just ready to be State side again.

(4-3)
15
Chiefs_table
Kansas City Chiefs
Week 7 result: Beat the Las Vegas Raiders, 31-0

This was just an absolute beatdown. I really don't have much to say about this game beyond that.

(4-2)
16
10
Steelers_table
Pittsburgh Steelers
Week 7 result: Lost to the Cincinnati Bengals, 33-31

A major drop for the Steelers from Week 6 to Week 7. Maybe not super fair but they let Joe Flacco beat them on nine days of prep with the Bengals organization so... *shrugs*

(3-3-1)
17
5
Cowboys_table
Dallas Cowboys
Week 7 result: Beat the Washington Commanders, 44-22

Even before Jayden Daniels got hurt the Cowboys had this one in the bag.

(4-3)
18
1
Panthers_table
Carolina Panthers
Week 7 result: Beat the New York Jets, 13-6

The Panthers are over .500. That's it. That's the note.

(3-3)
19
4
FALCONS
Atlanta Falcons
Week 7 result: Lost to the San Francisco 49es, 20-10

As I wrote in my column Monday morning, the 49ers beat the Falcons with Atlanta's own game plan. That stings.

(3-3)
20
7
Vikings.png
Minnesota Vikings
Week 7 result: Lost to the Philadelphia Eagles, 28-22

It wasn't that the Vikings played the Eagles poorly, it's just that they can't find ways to win games they could.

(3-4)
21
3
Bengals_table
Cincinnati Bengals
Week 7 result: Beat the Pittsburgh Steelers, 33-31

Joe Flacco ladies and gentlemen. The savior of Cincinnati. Who knew?

(3-4)
22
2
af_22_nfl_club-logo_0000s_0001_commanders
Washington Commanders
Week 7 result: Lost to the Dallas Cowboys, 44-22

Things have gone from bad to worse for the Commanders. Not having Daniels healthy continues to plague them.

(2-5)
23
2
Giants_table
New York Giants
Week 7 result: Lost to the Denver Broncos, 33-32

The was a fourth quarter collapse of historic proportion. (Yes, I recognize the irony). But like.. giving up 33 points in the fourth?! REALLY?!

(2-4)
24
1
Texans_table
Houston Texans
Week 7 result: Lost to the Seattle Seahawks, 27-19

No more 10 p.m. ET kickoffs on Monday night. I beg you!!!!

(2-5)
25
Cardinals_Table
Arizona Cardinals
Week 7 result: Lost to the Green Bay Packers, 27-23

"And the winner of the unluckiest team a month and a half into the season goes to the Cardinals." *crickets*

(2-5)
26
1
Browns_table
Cleveland Browns
Week 7 result: Beat the Miami Dolphins, 31-6

The Browns thumped the Dolphins. Not often you get to say the Browns thumped anyone.

(2-5)
27
1
Raiders_table
Las Vegas Raiders
Week 7 result: Lost to the Kansas City Chiefs, 31-0

I maybe should have dropped the Raiders lower for being shutout. But I really don't like to kick someone when they are down.

(1-6)
28
3
Titans_table
Tennessee Titans
Week 7 result: Lost to the New England Patriots, 31-13

I know you're going to ask how the Titans jumped three spots after losing. My response to that is this is, well, perhaps other teams did worse. (Because yes, they did).

(1-5)
29
Ravens_table
Baltimore Ravens
Week 7 result: BYE WEEK

The Ravens face the Bears this coming week and I cannot stress enough how much they need a win.

(1-6)
30
Saints_table
New Orleans Saints
Week 7 result: Lost to the Chicago Bears, 26-14

My mom always told me if I don't have anything nice to say don't say anything at all.

(1-6)
29
3
Dolphins_table
Miami Dolphins
Week 7 result: Lost to the Cleveland Browns, 31-6

All I gotta say is if the Falcons lose to the Dolphins next week things are going to be oh so not good in Atlanta seeing as Miami is a dumpster fire right now.

(0-7)
32
Jets_table
New York Jets
Week 7 result: Lost to the Carolina Panthers, 13-6

Speaking of dumpster fires...
