Matt Ryan on contract negotiations: 'I think we're moving in the right direction'

FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. – Similar to what Falcons general manager Thomas Dimitroff has said all offseason, Matt Ryan isn't losing sleep over the process involving his contract extension.

Dimitroff has said repeatedly that getting a new contract in place for Ryan is the Falcons' No. 1 priority this offseason and he and Ryan's representation have had "good conversations" thus far. Falcons owner Arthur Blank has said that there is “no need to worry” about contract talks and Dimitroff has also said there's no timeframe on when the new deal is expected to be done and that won't change how Ryan approaches the offseason.

Ryan is focused on using the offseason to improve and help make the Falcons' offense better in 2018. He also has recently become a father to a set of twins.

"It's not something that I get heavily involved in," Ryan said. "My job is to get myself prepared to go out and be successful on the field and then let the business side of it be handled by the people who are competent at handling that. Everything is good and I think the discussions have been really positive.

"As far as timeframe or anything like that I think it will shake out and handle itself. I'm not sure if it will be today, tomorrow or in a couple of weeks but I really think we are moving in the right direction. I'm excited to be here that's the biggest thing and I think all of those things will take care of itself."
