FLOWERY BRANCH, GA — Falcons fifth-round pick Kerry Meier is out for the season after a knee injury that occurred during the fourth quarter of Thursday night's 28-10 loss to the New England Patriots.

The wide receiver has been placed on injured reserve.

The setback extinguished what was shaping up to be a very promising year for the prolific wideout from the University of Kansas. Meier had caught the attention of the coaching staff with his reliable hands, disciplined routes and mature approach to the game.

Meier had a strong camp up until his injury. With an injury to No. 2 receiver Michael Jenkins, Meier was vying to become a reliable option in Jenkins' absence.

Meier's injury marks the second straight year a Falcons wide receiver has suffered a season-ending knee injury in training camp. Harry Douglas tore his ACL during camp last year and is just now starting to return to the preseason lineup.
