Jacksonville's late game touchdown drops Atlanta to 0-2 in the pre-season.

  • The Atlanta Falcons fell 15-13 in their second pre-season contest of the year. The Birds dropped to 3-5 against the Jaguars in pre-season matchups with Jacksonville winning the past four pre-season meetings between the two clubs. The Falcons will face the Jaguars in the regular season for the first time since 2007 in a Thursday Night matchup on NFL Network on December 15.
  • The Falcons defense once again set the tone for the game in the early going when CB Brent Grimes intercepted QB David Garrard's deep ball in the end zone and returned it 62 yards to the Jaguars' 42-yard line.
  • Grimes also posted a pass defensed on the second play of the Jaguars opening drive. Last season, he set a franchise record with 23 passes defensed en route to his first Pro Bowl selection. Head Coach Mike Smith often talks about the importance of ball disruptions in the passing game. In total, the Falcons recorded six passes defensed in Friday's game.
  • Grimes has one interception in each of the Birds two preseason games this season. In 2010, he finished the season with five interceptions tying S William Moore for the team lead. Since 2009, Grimes' 12 interceptions rank tied for second in the NFL. Only Eagles CB Asante Samuel has more picks in the last two seasons.
  • The fourth-year cornerback's interception set up a 40-yard field goal by K Matt Bryant. In the last two games, the Falcons have scored 16 points on five takeaways. Last season, Atlanta scored 115 points on 31 turnovers which ranked fourth in the NFL.
  • After recording an interception on the Jaguars first drive, the Falcons defense recovered a fumbled handoff for its second takeaway of the game. In the 2011 preseason, Atlanta has forced five turnovers in two games including takeaways on each of its opponent's first offensive possessions.
  • Wide receiver Harry Douglas showed off his explosiveness in the second quarter when QB Matt Ryan hit him for a 76-yard touchdown pass. Douglas caught a short pass over the middle, made one defender miss and raced 50 yards to the end zone for his second touchdown of the preseason.
  • Douglas finished the game with a team-high 87 yards on two catches. He also led the team with 47 yards on three catches and one touchdown in last week's game against Miami.
  • Ryan played the entire first half and finished the game completing seven of 15 pass attempts for 116 yards, one touchdown and a 95.4 passer rating. Ryan has thrown a touchdown in each of the Birds' preseason games and he is currently riding a streak of 15 consecutive regular season games with at least one touchdown pass.
  • Ryan and QB Chris Redman combined to complete 17 of 29 passes for 192 yards and found 14 different receivers for at least one reception.
  • One of Atlanta's offseason focuses was getting more pressure on the quarterback. In Friday night's game, the Falcons sacked Jaguars quarterbacks three times with DT Jonathan Babineaux and DT Peria Jerry each registering a sack and DE Kroy Biermann, and LB Sean Weatherspoon each earning one half sack a piece.
  • The Falcons run defense continued to be stout against the Jaguars as the Birds held Jacksonville to 55 yards on 26 carries and a meager 2.1 yards per carry average.
  • Bryant had another solid day, hitting a pair of field goals from 40 and 34 yards to add to the trio of field goals he kicked in the preseason opener against Miami.
