The Falcons have waived linebacker Robert James after he served a four-game suspension to start the regular season.

FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga.** - The Atlanta Falcons today waived linebacker Robert James.

James, 5-foot-11, 224 pounds, was originally drafted by the Falcons in the fifth round (138th overall) of the 2008 NFL draft. James appeared in one game for the Falcons, seeing action on special teams in the 2009 season finale at Tampa Bay.

James was allowed to participate with the team during training camp and he was able to play in preseason games, per the terms of his four-game suspension for violating the NFL policy on performance-enhancing substances. At the start of preparation for Week 1, however, James was no longer allowed to attend any team activities at the Falcons' Flowery Branch facility.

Because James was waived, the Falcons will not have to make any further moves to keep the roster at the league-mandated number of 53.
