A day after waiving him, the Falcons have signed linebacker Robert James to a practice squad contract

FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. — The Atlanta Falcons today signed linebacker Robert James to the practice squad and terminated the practice squad contract of running back Shawnbrey McNeal.

James, 5-foot-11, 224 pounds, was originally drafted by the Falcons in the fifth round (138th overall) of the 2008 NFL Draft. After spending the 2008 season on injured reserve, James spent most of 2009 on the Falcons practice squad before being elevated to the active roster for the season finale at Tampa Bay.

McNeal, 5-foot-10, 190 pounds, was signed by the Chargers as a rookie free agent on May 10. He was signed to the Falcons practice squad on Sept. 21.
