Embedded in these athletes is the importance of a personal relationship with God, unconditional love and support for family, commitment to academic excellence to secure a future, and a deep and unwavering desire to play and win the game of football. Though the Pirates are small in size and number, they are giants at heart. The record books may not indicate an undefeated team for the season, but those who live in Pike County know that the Pirates are true champions. Despite much adversity, Pike County players are committed to each other and consider themselves family. One player does not suffer a hardship that the others do not share. Similarly, when one player excels, the rest of the team takes pride and celebrates. The players are respectful young men who set an example for others both on and off the field. They play with good sportsmanship and are examples of good character even in a game against an opponent who does not play to the same standard. A Pike County jersey means something and commands respect. The Pirates feel they should be the Team of the Week because they've played hard and they've played hurt. They've been the underdog but fought like the champion. What began several years ago as somewhat of a team motto, "Who are we? PC!" has become the resounding cheer of the Pike County fans that show up every Friday night to a standing-room-only stadium. Pirate football is not a seasonal game, but a complete way of life.
