HS Teams Of The Week Nominees: Oct. 3

The Atlanta Falcons and The Georgia Army National Guard are proud to recognize the following high school football program nominees for the week of October 3, 2011. The stories below reflect the character, integrity and strength of some of Georgia's best high school football programs. The Atlanta Falcons and Georgia Army National Guard are honored to share these stories, as they embody the core values of both organizations.

For each of the five Georgia High School Football classifications, fans are encouraged to read the submissions and vote for the team you believe should win. Voting is open through 5 pm ET on Fridays, and winners will be announced each Monday at atlantafalcons.com/nationalguard.

WEEK OF OCTOBER 3

CLASS AAAAA


Benedictine Military School, Savannah, GA
The Benedictine Cadets participate in many community events throughout the year and none are more important than the four blood drives they conduct on campus each year. The Cadets work with the Blood Alliance to bring the Bloodmobile out to campus and around 50 Cadets, faculty and staff members donate their time for the worthy cause.

Lowndes County Vikings, Valdosta, GA
The Lowndes County Vikings have emerged from humble beginnings to become one of the most formidable teams in the 1-AAAAA Region and the state of Georgia. From 1980 to the present their record is 173-36. The Vikings have won seven out right region titles, and 5 State Championships. p>

Valdosta Wildcats, Valdosta, GA
The Wildcats have set the standard in winning on and off the field. They have accumulated six National and 23 State Championships since they have been playing football. The Wildcats are the winningest high school football team in America. The Valdosta Wildcats also played a major part in the city of Valdosta winning ESPN's "TITLETOWN USA".

Rockdale Bulldogs, Conyers, GA
The Bulldogs have proven to be motivated warriors as they represent such a great school with pride.

Cedar Shoals Jaguars, Athens, GA
At the start of the year the Jaguars hired a new head coach who later resigned leaving Coach Thomas to take over the reigns as the new head coach. He has led the team to overcome some key player injuries and continues to build his team through the leadership of his upperclassman.

Benjamin E. Mays Raiders, Atlanta, GA
The student athletes that make up the Raiders exemplify excellence on the field as well as in the classroom and community.

CLASS AAA


Westover Patriots, Albany, GA
Westover players partenered with Phoebe Putney hospital and the SOWEGA Food Bank to pass out chicken from Tysons food to various organizations in the Dougherty County area. Some players also went to a local nursing home to deliver presents and food to the elderly last holiday season.

Columbia Eagles, Decaturs, GA
The Eagles are a focused team and they strave to always do their best .

Westside Patriots, Augusta, GA
The Patriots are on the edge of Richmond County but conduct volunteer work doing food drives and carwashes in neighboring Columbia County which host one of the schools rivalries. The school is also where GHSA host the coaching clinics for local community coaches.

CLASS AA


Jefferson County Warriors, Louisville, GA
The Warriors lost their starting quarterback to college. There will also be a new region alignmet in which the Warriors will compete in region 3A. This has not stopped them from beating some of the top 2A teams and preparing for the move up!

Calhoun Yellow Jackets, Calhoun, GA
The Yelloy Jackets were the 10 time region champions last year, and they expect to have another outstanding year this year. More importantly, they have a lot of new players on the team, and this would help to inspire them and reward their seasoned players for their outstanding teamwork.

Jackson County Panthers, Jefferson, GA
The Jackson County High School Football Team is a great program which gives a lot of support to the Georgia Army National Guard.p>

CLASS A


Warrenton Screamin Devils, Warren, GA
Nestled in this small community, the Devils are very vocal and active within the community. The school serves as a gathering and escape for many locals during possible disasters. It is also the meeting place on Friday nights during football season.

Bremen Blue Devils, Bremen, GA
The Blue Devils are the "Can Do" team. They believe that anything can be accomplished with proper preparation and teamwork.p>

Taylor County Vikings, Butler, GA
The Vikings have overcome many adversities. They are ranked #2 in the Region.p>
