The Atlanta Falcons today announced that they have waived linebacker Matt Hansen (non-football injury).

Hansen, 6-1, 230 pounds, was originally signed by the Falcons as a college free agent on July 26, 2011. He was signed to the Falcons practice squad on December 28, 2011.

Hansen came into his second season with the Falcons determined to make the roster, telling AtlantaFalcons.com’s Daniel Cox, "My goal is to make the active roster and get on special teams. That's it, that's my goal. There's nothing else. I'd be cool with the practice squad again, but I want to make the active roster."

Throughout minicamp and OTAs, Hansen looked to be in good position to do that, putting a large amount of emphasis on special teams as a place to earn his stripes.

Hansen was originally signed to the Falcons as a safety, but was moved to linebacker after being re-added later in the 2011 campaign.
