FLOWERY BRANCH, GA – The Atlanta Falcons today waived cornerback Gabe Derricks and offensive lineman Mark Ortmann.

Derricks, 6-foot-3, 202 pounds, was originally signed by the Atlanta Falcons as a rookie free agent on April 26. He was waived on July 31 and later re-signed by the team on August 15.

Ortmann, 6-foot-6, 284 pounds, was signed by the Falcons as a free agent on August 23. Ortmann was originally signed as a rookie free agent by the Carolina Panthers on April 24. He was later waived on June 17.

The Falcons will need to reduce their roster to 75 players by 4 p.m. on August 31 to complete the NFL's mandated roster cutdown to a maximum of 75 players prior to the final preseason game.

Ortmann and Derricks were mainly brought in to keep the Falcons' starters and backups from having to finish preseason games. With injuries in the secondary and the trade of Quinn Ojinnaka to New England, the Falcons brought in Derricks and Ortmann to provide some depth.
