FLOWERY BRANCH, GA – The Falcons today have signed offensive lineman Mark Ortmann.

Ortmann, 6-foot-6, 284 pounds, was a three-year letterman at Michigan where he played in 36 games, including 25 starts. As a senior, Ortmann was a co-recipient of the Hugh R. Rader Jr. Award as the Wolverine's top offensive lineman.

The Klein, Texas native was originally signed as a rookie free agent by the Carolina Panthers on April 24. He was later waived on June 17. Ortmann attended Klein High School in Klein, Texas where he played offensive tackle and was a district champion discus thrower.

The Falcons traded offensive lineman Quinn Ojinnaka to the Patriots for an undisclosed draft pick. Head coach Mike Smith said the move was made because of the confidence he had in younger linemen, specifically Joe Hawley and Mike Johnson.
