Falcons Sign Eight to Future Contracts

The Atlanta Falcons today announced that they have signed wide receiver Marcus Jackson, guard Jacques McClendon, defensive tackle Micanor Regis, wide receiver James Rodgers, linebacker Pat Schiller, tight end Andrew Szczerba, cornerback Peyton Thompson and running back Josh Vaughan to reserve/future contracts.

Jackson, 6-1, 195 pounds, was signed by the Falcons as a college free agent on April 30, 2012 out of Lamar University. He recorded seven receptions for 73 yards during the 2012 preseason. Jackson finished his two-year career at Lamar with 65 catches for 1,159 yards. He spent the 2012 season as a member of the Falcons practice squad.

McClendon, 6-3, 324 pounds, was originally selected by the Indianapolis Colts in the fourth round (129 overall) of the 2010 NFL Draft. He played in four games with the Colts in 2010 then spent time in Detroit and Pittsburgh. McClendon played in 49 games with 26 starts in four seasons at the University of Tennessee. He spent the 2012 season as a member of the Falcons practice squad.

Regis, 6-3, 305 pounds, was signed by the Falcons as a college free agent on April 30, 2012 out of Miami.  He played in 46 career games with 112 tackles (52 solo), 5.5 sacks, 18 tackles for loss, one forced fumble, and three interceptions for the Hurricanes. He spent the 2012 season as a member of the Falcons practice squad.

Rodgers, 5-7, 188 pounds, was originally signed by the Falcons as a college free agent on April 30, 2012 out of Oregon State. He finished his college career as one of the greatest receivers and all-purpose players in Oregon State history, establishing a school record with 222 career receptions, including an OSU record 91 catches in 2009. Rodgers spent the 2012 season as a member of the Falcons practice squad.

Schiller, 6-2, 235 pounds, was originally signed by the Falcons as a college free agent on April 30, 2012 out of Northern Illinois. In four seasons at NIU, Schiller collared 239 tackles (91 solo), three sacks, 19 tackles for loss, three forced fumbles, seven passes defensed and one interception. He spent the 2012 season as a member of the Falcons practice squad.

Szczerba, 6-6, 256 pounds, was originally signed by the Dallas Cowboys as a college free agent following the 2012 NFL Draft out of Penn State University and was signed to the Falcons practice squad on November 13, 2012. He played four years at Penn State where he was a co-recipient of the 2010 Frank Patrick Total Commitment Award.

Thompson, 5-11, 180 pounds, was signed by the Falcons as a college free agent on April 30, 2012 out of San Jose State. He logged 186 tackles (125 solo), 10.5 tackles for loss, seven interceptions, one sack, two forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, and 22 passes defensed in four seasons at SJSU. He spent the 2012 season as a member of the Falcons practice squad.

Vaughan, 6-0, 225 pounds, was originally signed by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as a college free agent out of Richmond on May 1, 2009. He was signed by the Carolina Panthers in 2010 and has seen action in 10 games over the last two seasons. Vaughan has logged 10 carries for 31 yards, including a one-yard touchdown run, in his NFL career. He spent the 2012 season as a member of the Falcons practice squad.
