Falcons and Novelis Promote Recycling Through 2012 Season

The Atlanta Falcons and Novelis, the team's official recycling sponsor, have teamed up to educate and encourage fans to recycle at the Georgia Dome, at school and at home.  They have developed a number of initiatives to increase recycling awareness throughout the community this season.

Recycling stations are available in the Georgia Dome parking lots and at the stadium's gates for fans to deposit their recyclable items before and after the game. Linebacker Sean Weatherspoon, running back Jason Snelling and center Todd McClure are featured on the Georgia Dome video boards during Falcons games offering fans recycling tips.

The key initiative in this season's partnership is the Green Team Recycling Program, a three-month long campaign designed to educate and recognize schools throughout the state of Georgia for their recycling efforts by providing educational materials, student contests and prizes. More than 50 schools have signed up to participate in the inaugural program, which runs until January.

"We are proud to join with the Atlanta Falcons to launch the Green Team Recycling Program," said John Gardner, Vice President and Chief Sustainability Officer for Novelis. "Education-focused initiatives such as this will go a long way towards bringing to life the importance of recycling to communities throughout Georgia– saving valuable energy and reducing the amount of material going to landfills."

Incentives for the program include a recycling education packet, Green Team posters for the classroom, and a video of recycling tips and information featuring Atlanta Falcons players. Through the ambassador program, participating classrooms and schools also have a chance to receive a school visit from Falcons players and cheerleaders along with other prizes.

Three dedicated program members can be nominated to win a commemorative Atlanta Falcons football as well as a $500 grant. One grand prize-winning ambassador will earn his or her school a visit from Freddie Falcon, cheerleaders and a Falcons player, as well as a $2,500 donation.

"We're excited to partner with Novelis to encourage our fans to recycle their aluminum containers and make a difference in the environment where they work, live and play," said Tim Zulawski Vice President of Sponsorship Sales & Service for the Atlanta Falcons.

Atlanta-based Novelis Inc. is the world's leading producer of rolled aluminum and the global leader in aluminum recycling.
