FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. – The Falcons announced a roster move Wednesday, signing fullback Ricky Ortiz and waiving cornerback Joseph Putu.

Fullback is one of the primary areas of competition for the Falcons this training camp, as the team decided not to re-sign Derrick Coleman after the 2017 season. Ortiz joins rookies Luke McNitt and Daniel Marx as the primary contenders for the job this summer.

Ortiz, 24, was signed by the Baltimore Ravens as a college free agent out of Oregon State following the 2017 NFL Draft. The 6-foot, 233-pound Ortiz played for the Ravens in the preseason last year, carrying the ball three times for eight yards and catching four passes for 21 yards. He spent time on the Ravens' practice squad last year. Putu was signed by the Falcons as a college free agent out of Florida following this year's NFL Draft.
