James suspended for violating PED policy

Flowery Branch, Ga. --The Atlanta Falcons have received official word from the NFL that third-year linebacker Robert James has been suspended for the first four games of the 2010 regular season.

The NFL issued the following statement Thursday afternoon:

"Robert James of the Atlanta Falcons has been suspended without pay for the team's first four games of the 2010 regular season for violating the NFL policy on performance enhancing substances. James' suspension begins on Saturday, September 4. He will be eligible to return to the Falcons' active roster on Monday, October 4 following the team's October 3 game against the San Francisco 49ers. James is eligible to participate in all preseason practices and games."

Drafted in the fifth round of the 2008 draft out of Arizona State, James spent his rookie season on Injured-Reserve and appeared in just one game of the 2009 campaign.
