Transcript: Smith Post-Practice Interview

Head coach Mike SmithOn Desmond Trufant and Robert Alford:

"Well they're going to get challenged this week. They've got two really good wide receivers in Cordarrelle Patterson and Greg Jennings. One can run, and the other one is a wily veteran. I think they've done a nice job for us. I think that they're adjusting to the way the game is going to be called, in terms of the points of emphasis. Again, they're going to be challenged this week."

On being pleased with their progress:

"Very much so. I think that they've been very consistent on the defensive side of the football. Maybe the most consistent guys that we've had."

On Lamar Holmes:

"I think that our offensive line as a whole has played much better this season, and I think Lamar as an individual has really upped his game. I still believe Lamar has the ability to play both left and right tackle. He's settled in at the right tackle position. He's a big strong, athletic guy, and he's done a very good job thus far for us."

On quick starts on the road:

"It's very important for us to start fast. It's one of the things that we have been talking about. We haven't really started as fast as we like through the first three games, especially on the road. You get in there and move the ball and score; it can equalize some things, so it's going to be important for us to start fast in all three phases. If we're kicking off we're going to have to run and cover because they have Patterson that can take it to the house, and we need to get the ball back to our offense as quickly as possible if we start on defense."

On how Roddy White looked:

"He looked good. Roddy got some work with us. There is a change on the injury report for today: Prince Shembo was a full participant and Roddy will be listed as a limited participant again today, and we'll get a little bit more work with all our guys that's got some bangs and bruises. So we're looking forward to finishing up tomorrow with the cleanup day, in terms of our installation."

On the possibility of  Chad Greenway being out:

"Greenway has been a really good player for a long time, and I know for the linebacker position to play 89 straight games it says you're a tough guy. If the doctors give him the ok, I'm sure he's going to be out there. He played the game last week with the broken hand, and now they're concerned about his ribs. I know he was a non-participant in practice yesterday, but I would imagine that he's a guy that can go right up to a game-time decision. It definitely would change their defense a little bit because I think he is by far their best linebacker."
