The Falcons jumped out to an early 14-0 lead, controlling the clock for the entire first quarter. They mixed up the run and the pass effectively and marched down the field on two scoring drives, with over 12 minutes combined time of possession on the two drives. Running back Michael Turner rushed for 58 yards in the game and ground out important yardage in the opening two drives. After the game he said they felt good about the game plan heading in and knew they could win: "Most definitely I think we were ready to go from the beginning of the game. Throughout the week we had a game plan but we talked about if we needed to make changes we would do it quickly. We knew this game was all about us and if we did what we needed to do and execute we would win."
- The game plan consisted of getting after Eagles QB Michael Vick and the pressure would prevent him from carving up the defense on the ground. John Abraham had one of three sacks on Vick on the day for the Falcons and much like last year, they approached the Eagles with a physical mentality: "It was nothing personal, we try to do that to everybody. It's a football game and Mike is my friend but you know when you start playing football it doesn't matter who has the ball, you have to go get them."
- With the bye week coming at an important time for the Falcons, they may have put together one of their better games this season. With a handful of players returning healthy and the extra time off to self-scout, the Falcons feel good about where they're at. Safety Thomas DeCoud, who had one of the best games on defense, said he feels like things are coming together: "I think we are starting to hit our stride. The last two games we didn't play as well as we could have, but now we are starting to hit our stride and it's good to come out after the bye week and get a good solid win under our belts and really play well on all sides of the ball."
- Just as he did when he tied the franchise record for wins in a career, head coach Mike Smith didn't want to take much credit for setting the franchise record for head coaches. Smith was asked after the game if he knew about the record, but Smith wanted to spread the love around: "Yes I am, but it's not about a coach. There are a lot of people that contributed to the number of wins since (general manager) Thomas (Dimitroff) and I have gotten here. It's about the players. It's about the coaches. There are a lot of people that make contributions to that. We're glad that we were able to get the win this week and we are looking forward to start our preparations for next week's game against the very good Dallas Cowboys. We'll enjoy this for a few minutes and then move on."
- Wide receiver Drew Davis saw the first extended action of his career with Harry Douglas being out on Sunday. Matt Ryan, who connected with Davis on the second-year receiver's first touchdown of his career, had a nice review for the young receiver after the game: "Drew Davis, who's filling in for Harry Douglas played extremely well today. He had two catches on the first drive, which was huge for him getting acclimated to the game. But a good design. It's one of the things we've done quite a bit, screening to Julio. He kind of slipped right behind the defense and made a good catch."
