Transcript: Tony Gonzalez Locker Room Interview

On the Redskins defense:

"You look at them and they're kind of similar to the Chargers with that front seven being pretty stout. We had success against them, but I would anticipate it being a little more challenging this week. Those guys up front, d-tackles, linebackers with London Fletcher, they get after it so it's going to be a tough challenge for us. Obviously, we'd like to pick up where we left off running the football, but that's going to be a challenge for us this week. As far as the passing situations go, I've just been looking at the film. You see some teams that have had success, but they have some playmakers. DeAngelo Hall is one of the great corners in this League. It's always challenging no matter what team you're going against, so we have to focus and go out there ready to roll."

On being good that the running game was established last week:

"Absolutely, it makes it so much harder for opposing defenses. When they play against us it's like what are you going to do? It just adds to that choose your poison type of offense that we strive to be and keep going out there to be the rest of the year. We'll see what they (opposing defense) want to do. If they want to stop the run they have to put more people in the box, which is going to open it up for (QB) Matt (Ryan) in the passing game to throw it to us. That's the good balance and we have to keep it up."

On not getting too high off the emotions of being 4-0:

"I think it's hugely important we don't get ahead of ourselves. It's only four games. We have a long season. We just have to keep playing it one game at a time and I think Coach Smitty does a great job with that. He's definitely reiterating day in and day out that we have to stay hungry and we are. I don't think that's going to be a problem. With the leadership that we have on this team there is no way that we're going to be complacent and think that we have arrived by any means. You saw last week. We could've easily lost that game. There is no doubt about it. We have to go out there and play better than we did last week, and we have to make sure we don't get ahead of ourselves."

On the Thursday night games:

"It's strange, but we played Thursday night last year I think. We did it back in Kansas City. We're kind of getting used to it now. I kind of like it. It gives us another chance to watch some games. I'm a football fan. For the fans out there I know they probably like it. It's a good chance to get some more football."

On grading the offense:

"I'd give us an eight. We've done what we wanted to, but at the same time there is room for improvement. There is always room for improvement. That's what we're striving for. It'll never be a 10. It's impossible or even a nine. I think right now if we can hover right around an eight and have the attitude that we have to keep getting better  week in and week out then we're going to be fine."
