Jay's Takeaways - August 9

AtlantaFalcons.com managing editor Jay Adams gives his three takeaways every day throughout camp.

## Big test

A new team at practice means that the Falcons need to be on their toes. With the Falcons practicing against each other for more than a week, bringing a new team in to see was a welcome change. That meant, however, that defensive players couldn't sniff out plays before they happened. It also meant the offense couldn't get a read based on what they had seen for several practices earlier. The uncertainty of what the Jags would run tested both sides of the ball for the Falcons.

## Replacing Jenkins

Harry Douglas, Brian Finneran, Eric Weems and Kerry Meier are the likely candidates to step in for wide receiver Michael Jenkins in his absence. Head coach Mike Smith said Finneran and Weems would get most of the snaps at the No. 2 spot during Friday night's preseason game against the Chiefs.

## Getting the wrong idea

Jacksonville quarterback David Garrard said some of his teammates got themselves pumped up on the way to camp this morning as if the Jaguars were scrimmaging the Falcons. That, of course, isn't the case during the two days the Jaguars are here, but it's an indication of the intensity level another team brings to a camp atmosphere. Players on both teams seem to be itching to get some real action.
