Weekly Coverage Recap: Falcons vs. Redskins

Monday

During his weekly press conference Monday, head coach Mike Smith spoke about how Tony Gonzalez will get significant playing time the rest of the season not only because he gives the Falcons the best chance to win, but because the tight end wants to savor every snap he has left.

Smith also provided injury updates, saying that S Thomas DeCoud is in the NFL's concussion protocol and that RB Antone Smith has a knee injury and will be day-to-day this week.

We also got an update on DE Kroy Biermann, who's happy with his progress in recovery.

Justin Blalock, who leads NFL guards in consecutive starts, said the Falcons are still focused on this season and are preparing hard to win their three remaining games.

Despite some troubles throughout the season, rookie linebackers Paul Worrilow said the Falcons defense always plays with pride and therefore continues to improve and play better each week.

Tuesday

Several Falcons visited the City of Refuge, practically around the corner from the Georgia Dome in Atlanta, to prepare and serve meals Tuesday to help lift spirits during the holiday season.

Wednesday

LB Sean Weatherspoon has seen significant growth in the Falcons rookies this year and said he looks forward to being a part of their promising future as they continue to progress.

QB Matt Ryan said despite the challenges they face from their opponents, the Falcons' biggest challenge right now is to look inward and place their focus solely on improving themselves.

CB Desmond Trufant has seen major progression throughout the season both from himself and fellow rookie Robert Alford, largely due to them taking in everything they can from the veterans on the team.

Veteran CB Asante Samuel acknolewdges this season has been his toughest yet, but still knows that the entire Falcons team doesn't have an ounce of quit in them and will keep fighting.

Rookie CB Robert Alford hopes that in the future the Falcons can continue to have the same showing of teamwork that they have been able to produce the past few games.

Steven Jackson knows he still has the same skill set as he had in the past and that his teammates and coaches have full confidence in him to produce up to his full potential.

Head coach Mike Smith said the Falcons are prepared to face Redskins quarterback Kirk Cousins and believes that playing against him last year will serve as a great benefit to the entire Falcons team. Thursday
