Biography

Patrick Toney was hired as defensive passing game coordinator on Feb. 27, 2026.

Toney comes to Atlanta after recently being hired as defensive coordinator at the University of Mississippi for the 2026 season, prior to spending three seasons (2023-25) as the defensive backs coach for the Arizona Cardinals. Toney worked with All-Pro safety Budda Baker the past three seasons, guiding him to earn his seventh consecutive Pro Bowl selection at safety in 2025. He also helped Baker earn second-team All-Pro honors in 2024.

Prior to Arizona, Toney spent 11 years at the collegiate level. He served as co-defensive coordinator/safeties coach at Florida (2022) following four seasons at Louisiana, serving as defensive coordinator/outside linebackers coach (2021), defensive coordinator/safeties coach (2020) and safeties coach (2018-19). Prior to Louisiana, Toney spent two seasons (2016-17) as the safeties coach at Texas at San Antonio and one season (2014) as secondary coach at Sam Houston State. Toney began his college coaching career with Southeastern Louisiana, spending three seasons there as defensive assistant/secondary coach (2012-13) and safeties/special teams coordinator (2014).

A native of Poway, Calif., Toney graduated from Southeastern Louisiana in 2012 with a bachelor's degree in general studies. He and his wife, Courtney, have a daughter, Peyton.
