Weekly Coverage Recap: Falcons at Panthers

Monday

After a strong showing against Tampa Bay two weeks ago, head coach Mike Smith found his Falcons showing inconsistent play against Arizona during a loss Sunday and said the team needs to work to find a rhythm.

After his press conference, Smith joined 790 the Zone's Wes Durham and Dave Archer to discuss the loss to the Cardinals.

Wednesday

S Thomas DeCoud breaks down two big plays from Sunday's west coast matchup with the Arizona Cardinals.

Given some intense games in the past and the way the season has unraveled for both teams, QB Matt Ryan said he expects Sunday's game with the Panthers to be highly emotional and passionate.

RB Steven Jackson said the keys to a win over the Panthers is to match their intensity and be prepared for their aggressive defense, along with making plays in the running game and building off of that.

S Thomas DeCoud said Sunday's game against the Panthers will come down to who wants it more, adding that the Falcons have to key in on Carolina's run game to make QB Cam Newton as one dimensional as possible.

Although CB Desmond Trufant has never gone up against Panther WR Steve Smith, the rookie is ready to do whatever is needed to put the Falcons in a position to win.

After Wednesday's practice (in which WR Roddy White and RB did not participate), Smith said he hopes to see a more balanced Falcons team on Sunday by starting out as fast offensively as they do defensively.

Thursday

Veteran tight end Tony Gonzalez said he plans to enjoy himself as the season moves forward, adding that he still has confidence in the team's ability to finish the season strong.

After Thursday's practice (in which Roddy White once again did not participate in), Smith said considering the Falcons have lacked in their run game the last few games, they're hoping to improve that with better scheming as it will be critical against the Panthers.
