FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. — The Atlanta Falcons were not without a few injury questions going into Friday's game report. Throughout the course of Week 7's prep, there were many key starters who did not practice for one reason or another.
The Falcons have officially ruled out rookies Jalon Walker and Billy Bowman Jr., who are both dealing with soft tissue injuries. This is the second consecutive game Bowman has missed, and the first miss for Walker.
The expectation should continue to be that Dee Alford works in place of Bowman at nickel. Alford had an interception against Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills on Monday night.
The Falcons have also ruled Ray-Ray McCloud out for Sunday's game, too. He has been a non-participant in practice all week and was a healthy scratch via a coaching decision for Monday's game.
"I sent him home," head coach Raheem Morris said Friday. "An excused absence. We are working through some things that are private with the young man, and we will get those things figured out."
Morris said the issue with McCloud is not related "at all" to the recent firing of former wide receivers coach Ike Hilliard.
"This is between Ray-Ray, the organization and us," Morris said. "... I wouldn't say it is a disciplinary thing. More a football thing with something we have to get straightened out."
Another key piece of news involved the status of starting left tackle Jake Matthews, who left Week 6's win with an ankle injury at halftime. Though Matthews did not participate in Thursday's practice, he was limited Friday and received a game designation of questionable.
Matthews has started 183 consecutive games for Atlanta, the most in Falcons' franchise history. He holds the active league record for most consecutive starts, and is 13th overall since 1991 in the stat. If he gets the go-ahead Sunday in San Francisco, that streak would continue. He will be a game-time decisions, though, as well as Darnell Mooney who continues to nurse a hamstring injury that kept him off the field in Week 6.
