Tommy Rees

Offensive Coordinator

Biography

Tommy Rees was hired as the Atlanta Falcons offensive coordinator on Jan. 22, 2026. He joined the Falcons after two seasons with the Cleveland Browns, serving as the team's tight ends coach/pass game specialist in 2024 before being promoted to offensive coordinator prior to the start of the 2025 season. Rees worked collaboratively with Head Coach Kevin Stefanski to create the team's offensive system and took over play-calling duties in Week 10.

The Browns got impressive performances out of rookie running back Quinshon Judkins and rookie tight end Harold Fannin Jr in 2025, with the latter leading the Browns and ranking fourth among all rookies in receiving yards after hauling in 72 passes for 731 yards and six touchdowns. For his part, Judkins ranked third among rookies in rushing yards (827) and fourth in scrimmage yards (998). Additionally, rookies Dillion Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders split time at quarterback with Joe Flacco. Gabriel completed 110-of-185 passes for 937 yards, seven touchdowns and an 80.8 passer rating. Sanders completed 120-of-212 passes for 1,400 yards, seven touchdowns and a 68.1 passer rating.

As the tight ends coach and passing game specialist in 2024, Rees saw tight end David Njoku finish tenth among tight ends in receptions and ninth in receiving touchdowns, leading the Browns with 64 catches and five scores. Five tight ends spent time on the Browns' active roster and combined for 111 receptions, 953 yards and eight touchdowns. Wide receiver Jerry Jeudy earned Pro Bowl honors after setting the franchise record for receptions in a season with 90. He also posted the fifth-most receiving yards in a single season in club history with 1,229.

Prior to joining the Browns, Rees spent one season as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at the University of Alabama in 2023. Rees helped the Crimson Tide win the SEC championship and advance to the College Football Playoff. Under his guidance, Alabama ranked 23rd in the FBS in scoring, averaging 33.3 points per game. Additionally, quarterback Jalen Milroe ranked third in the nation in yards per attempt (9.98), seventh in touchdown percentage (8.1%), and fifth in passer rating (172.2). Milroe completed 187 of 229 passes (65.8%) for 2,834 yards with 23 touchdowns and six interceptions in 13 games.

Rees spent six seasons at Notre Dame (2017-22), starting as the quarterbacks coach before being named the team's offensive coordinator in 2020. In three years with Rees coordinating the offense, the Irish averaged more than 30 points per game each season and advanced to the College Football Playoff in 2020 after an undefeated regular season.

At Notre Dame, Rees was instrumental in the development of several future NFL players, including tight ends Michael Mayer and Tommy Tremble, running back Kyren Williams, tackles Liam Eichenberg and Robert Hainsey. Under Rees' guidance, quarterback Ian Book finished his Notre Dame career as the winningest signal-caller in school history, posting a 30-5 record and guiding the Irish to two CFP appearances (2018, 2020).

Rees was an offensive assistant with the San Diego Chargers in 2016 after beginning his coaching career as an offensive graduate assistant at Northwestern in 2015.

As a player, he led the Irish to a 23-8 record and finished his playing career as one of the most prolific quarterbacks in school history, ranking in the top five in Notre Dame history in 21 different single-game, single-season or career passing categories.

A Lake Bluff, Ill. native, Rees graduated from Notre Dame in 2013.
