Shawn Flaherty was named Atlanta Falcons assistant offensive line coach on Feb. 27, 2023, after spending the 2022 season as a football analyst on Atlanta's coaching staff.
In 2024, Atlanta's offensive line blocked for an offense that ranked sixth in the league with 369.82 yards per game. Flaherty also helped guide guard Chris Lindstrom to a third-consecutive Pro Bowl appearance and second-team All-Pro honors. In 2024, Atlanta again posted a top-10 rushing attack and eclipsed 100 yards in 12 games, including a 227-yard rushing game in Week 18 vs. Carolina. The Falcons also boasted the league's fifth-ranked passing offense in 2024, averaging 239.3 passing yards per game.
In Flaherty's first season in with the Falcons, the team boasted a top-10 rushing offense averaging 127 yards per game and eclipsing 100 yards in 11 games. Atlanta totaled 657 of its 2,159 rushing yards before contact and averaged 1.33 yards before contact per rush. Atlanta's offense totaled 400-or-more yards in six games tied for the fourth most by a Falcons offense. Running behind the Falcons offensive line, Bijan Robinson led all rookies with 976 rushing yards and broke William Andrews (1,332) franchise record for yards from scrimmage by a rookie with 1,463.
Flaherty came to Atlanta having spent three seasons (2019-21) as a member of the Miami Dolphins coaching staff, serving as a coaching assistant from 2019-20 and an assistant offensive line coach in 2021.
Over the final 10 weeks of the 2021 season, the Dolphins offensive line limited opponents to 21 sacks, tied for the 13th-fewest in the NFL over that span. Miami's running game also improved from 78.6 yards per game to 104.3 yards per game over the final 10 games of the season.
Prior to his time in Miami, Flaherty spent two seasons (2017-18) as a graduate assistant at North Carolina State University. In his role, Flaherty worked primarily with the offensive line under the tutelage of current Falcons offensive line coach Dwayne Ledford, who served in that same role for the Wolfpack from 2016-18.
Flaherty was a four-year (2013-16) letterman at Towson (Md.) University, where he started games at both guard and center, and earned his bachelor's degree in business administration.
