Biography
Lance Schulters was named Atlanta Falcons defensive assistant on Feb. 3, 2024.
This marks Schulters' third stint with Atlanta's coaching staff, having previously served as a special teams intern from 2015-16 and a defensive assistant in 2020. 
In 2024, Schulters helped the Falcons' defensive back unit finish the season tied for third in the league in opponent plays of 20-or-more yards, allowing only 52 (44 passing, eight rushing,) throughout the season. He also helped guide safety Jessie Bates III as he totaled 10 passes defensed, four interceptions, one fumble recovery, a career-high four forced fumbles and one sack. Bates was the only player in the NFL to record both four interceptions and four forced fumbles in 2024. Additionally, cornerback A.J. Terrell Jr. allowed only 10 receptions for 114 yards on 21 targets in 114 coverage snaps in Weeks 13-18, the second-fewest receptions allowed by any player over that span.
In 2021, Schulters served as a coaching assistant for the Super Bowl champion Los Angeles Rams, aiding the defensive back unit. Schulters was promoted to defensive assistant for the 2022 season. Under Schulters guidance, cornerback Jalen Ramsey was named first-team All-Pro in 2021 and to the Pro Bowl in both 2021 and 2022.
Prior to his stint with the Rams, Schulters spent the 2015 and 2016 season as a special teams intern for the Falcons. In that time, kicker Matt Bryant went 48-for-55 (87.3%) on field goal attempts and 82-for-83 (98.8%) on extra point attempts in that span. Bryant also went 6-for-8 on field goal attempts of 50-or-more yards on the season.
Schulters began his coaching career in 2011 when he served as defensive backs coach at Bryant University. 
As a player, Schulters was selected by the San Francisco 49ers in the fourth round of the 1998 NFL Draft. Playing safety over his 10-year career, he spent time with the Tennessee Titans, Miami Dolphins, Atlanta Falcons and New Orleans Saints, and was named to the Pro Bowl in 1999. Additionally, the Hofstra University alum was named to the school's Hall of Fame in 2013.
