FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. The Atlanta Falcons have named Steven Drummond senior vice president of communications, the team announced today.

Drummond joins the Falcons after serving as the deputy athletic director and chief marketing officer at the University of Georgia Athletic Association. Since 2023, he has led the execution of the organization's internal and external communications and creative strategy while also developing and managing partnerships with brands, donors, and NIL platforms to create opportunities for student-athletes.

"I'm excited to welcome Steven to our senior leadership team," said Falcons President and CEO Greg Beadles. "He brings a wealth of experience, sound judgment and a strong track record of elevating communications strategy at the highest levels. As our football team and business continue to evolve in a dynamic environment, alignment, clarity and consistency are more important than ever. Steven is a trusted relationship builder with a clear strategic vision, shaped by success in high-pressure settings, and he will be a tremendous asset to our organization."

As senior vice president of communications, Drummond will be the senior leader responsible for shaping, protecting, and advancing the team's narrative and serving as a key piece of the Falcons integrated marketing leadership team. He will oversee all media strategy, day-to-day communications operations and proactive storytelling across traditional media, owned channels, league platforms and community touchpoints. Drummond will help the Falcons ensure cross-functional alignment across all departments responsible for fan and community engagement, ensuring that all external and internal relations are strategic, integrated and efficient.

Prior to his arrival in Athens, Drummond spent 22 years in the National Football League with the Carolina Panthers and Jacksonville Jaguars. In Carolina, he served as the club's vice president of football operations and senior advisor to ownership. In this role, Drummond oversaw all aspects of the team's football operations including equipment, video, football information technology, and player engagement. He provided advice and guidance to ownership, supporting organizational decision-making and overall messaging.

Drummond was promoted to VP of football operations after previously serving as the Panthers vice president and chief communications officer. In this role, he had oversight on the organization's front-facing brands and directed strategy for public relations, digital media, broadcast video, community relations and alumni affairs. He was promoted from assistant director of communications to director of communications in 2015 and executed the team's public relations strategy in a season that saw Carolina post a 15-1 regular season record and advance to Super Bowl 50.

In 2017, he was elevated to director of communications and digital media, where he led the organization through a transformation of its social media, digital video, editorial, audio and broadcast platforms, positioning the Panthers as one of the NFL's leading social and digital media brands.

Drummond was selected to participate in the Stanford University League of Leaders executive development program by the NFL. This program provided opportunities for broad and strategic understanding of the industry, operations and competition from university professors and senior NFL management.

A native of Rock Hill, S.C., Drummond earned a bachelor's degree in journalism and mass communication from the University of South Carolina in 2001. He received a master's in sports management from PennWest California in 2019 and his MBA from the Kenan-Flagler Business School at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2024.
