Falcons place CB Mike Hughes on IR, sign Khalid Kareem

Atlanta is also adding punting Trenton Gill to the practice squad.

FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. — The Atlanta Falcons are placing cornerback Mike Hughes on injured reserve.

Hughes suffered an ankle injury in the first quarter of the Falcons' Week 15 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He has missed the team's last three games. In his absence, players like C.J. Henderson and Cobee Bryant have gotten more reps.

Bryant took over for Hughes in the Tampa game and got the start the next week in Arizona. Henderson rotated in thereafter, putting the game on ice with an interception to give the Falcons the win. Henderson started opposite A.J. Terrell Monday night against the Rams.

In a corresponding move, the Falcons signed edge rusher Khalid Kareem to the 53-man roster off the practice squad. Kareem was one of the team's standard practice squad elevations Monday — his second consecutive elevation. He played well, making a key fourth-down stop in the red zone at the tail end of the first quarter.

In other roster-related moves, the Falcons signed punter Trenton Gill to the practice squad.
