FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. — The Atlanta Falcons will be without wide receiver Darnell Mooney for the second time this season. Mooney missed the team's Week 1 home opener as he nursed back to health following a shoulder injury sustained in the early days of training camp. He missed all of the preseason because of it.
Returning to action in Week 2, Mooney has caught seven passes for 79 yards in the weeks since. However, he left the Falcons' Week 4 win against the Washington Commanders early with a hamstring injury. Despite the team's bye week last week, Mooney did not participate in practices through the week's prep to face the Buffalo Bills this Monday night. He was officially ruled out Saturday, along with CB Clark Phillips III (tricpes/illness), DL LaCale London (triceps) and DL Ta'Quon Graham (calf). As a reminder, Graham has been on injured reserve for the first four games of the season. The team opened up his 21-day window to return to the active roster earlier this week, so they still have a couple weeks before they must take him off IR. They can do so at any time during that window of time.
In other injury news, the team did not give starting cornerback A.J. Terrell a game designation, therefore he can be active for Atlanta on Monday. Terrell has missed the last two games with a hamstring injury that he sustained halfway through the team's win in Minnesota three weeks ago.
The team's questionable designations were starting nickel Billy Bowman Jr. (knee/hamstring) cornerback Natrone Brooks (concussion protocol). Bowman popped up on the team's injury report Thursday while Brooks entered into the league's concussion protocol following a hit he took in Week 4. Protocol states that a player must have at least one practice at full participation before being fully cleared to return to active status. Brooks was a full participant in Friday's practice so he could be active Monday if the Falcons so choose and he doesn't have any setbacks with the concussion or shoulder issue he's been working through.
