Matt Ryan Shines in MVP Race

After another dominating performance from the Falcons' offense, led by Matt Ryan, Atlanta's quarterback remains at the forefront of the league MVP conversation through Week 15.

The Falcons sit at 9-5 with the NFL's No. 1 scoring offense and Ryan's play is a big reason for that.

Ryan ranks either first or second in the following categories:

  • QBR Rating: 1st (114.8)
  • Passing Touchdowns: 2nd (32) (Brees - 34)
  • Yard/Attempts: 1st (9.3 ypa)
  • Passing Yards: 2nd (4336) (Brees - 4559 yards)

In terms of quarterback rating, Ryan decisively outperformed the other leading quarterback candidates for the MVP race in week 15 action:

  • Matt Ryan: 144.5
  • Aaron Rodgers: 87.0
  • Derek Carr: 81.7
  • Matthew Stafford: 71.8
  • Tom Brady: 68.2

In Atlanta's last two games, Ryan has thrown for 523 yards and five touchdowns, all without All-Pro WR Julio Jones' services.

Even though there's a long way to go before the league MVP will be determined, week in and week out Ryan continues to make a strong case for himself.

And his Pro Bowl running back has noticed.

When asked if Ryan should be the NFL's MVP right now, Devonta Freeman responded with no hesitation.

"Definitely," Freeman said of his quarterback being the league MVP through Week 15. "Who else? I ride with Matt all day, that's my brother, he's a leader. He's got to be the MVP. If he's not the MVP of the league, he's my MVP and he's the MVP of this team."

If the Falcons keep winning, and Ryan continues to produce at the elite level that he is, it would be hard to argue against him.
