Falcons Sign Veteran Guard Chester

The Atlanta Falcons today announced that they have signed guard Chris Chester and waived linebacker Derrick Malone Jr.

Chester, 6-3, 303 pounds, was originally selected by the Baltimore Ravens in the second round (56th overall) of the 2006 NFL Draft out of Oklahoma. He spent five seasons with the Ravens and saw action in 73 games with 47 starts. He was signed by the Washington Redskins as a free agent in July of 2011.

During his four year stint with the Redskins, Chester started all 64 games. In 2013, he blocked for a rushing attack that tallied 2,164 yards, which was the fifth best rushing mark in the NFL. Chester is a native of Tustin, CA.

Malone, 6-2, 220 pounds, was signed by the Atlanta Falcons as a college free agent on May 6, 2015. He was Oregon's second leading tackler in 2014 with 85 stops. He finished his career with 246 tackles (116 solo), seven tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks, three quarterback hits, two forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, and eight passes defensed.
