2014 Falcons Camp Preview: DTs

Posted Jul 13, 2014

AtlantaFalcons.com takes a closer look at the different players at positions across the Falcons roster as the countdown to 2014 Falcons training camp continues

The Atlanta Falcons currently have six defensive tackles listed on their roster. This season, they’ll be led by new defensive line coach Bryan Cox, whose playing experience, knowledge and contagious passion for the game will do nothing but benefit the guys up-front in 2014 and beyond.

RETURNING PLAYERS

Jonathan Babineaux:

Babineaux enters his tenth season with the team and continues to be the leader of the defensive line. Regardless of where he lines up, he’s an imposing run stopper, whose teammates rave about his skills, experience and insight, soaking up every piece of advice that he offers.

Peria Jerry:

Jerry enters year six with the Falcons, following a 2013 season that included 16 games (14 starts), 33 tackles, one pass defensed and one fumble recovery. He’s looking to make the most of his recent opportunity, re-signed by the Falcons in the offseason.

Corey Peters:

Peters suffered an Achilles injury in the Week 16 matchup against the San Francisco 49ers in 2013 and his availability for training camp is uncertain. He played in 15 games last year, starting them all, recording 46 tackles, five sacks and two PBUs.

Travian Robertson:

Robertson is a former seventh-round pick by the Falcons (2012) and is also the strongest member of the DL, weight-room wise. Entering year three with the team, he’ll look to utilize not just his Incredible Hulk-like strength, but also his playing technique and game experience (12 games) to earn a roster spot.

VETERAN ADDITIONS

Paul Soliai:

Soliai joined the Falcons in the offseason, following seven years with the Miami Dolphins. In 2011, Soliai earned Pro Bowl honors, under then Dolphins defensive coordinator Mike Nolan. Count on coach Nolan to get the most out of Soliai, leading to great things for the Falcons defense in 2014.

ROOKIES

Donte Rumph:

Rumph enters training camp after a four-year career at Kentucky, where he logged 126 total tackles, including 47 tackles (24 solo), six tackles for loss and two sacks as a senior in 2013.
