Steve Hoffman was hired as an Atlanta Falcons senior assistant on Jan. 23, 2021.
In his role, Hoffman works primarily with Falcons specialists. Atlanta kicker Younghoe Koo closed the 2022 season making 12-of-12 field goal attempts, including three from 50-plus, earning NFC Special Teams Player of the Month for December and January. Over the past two seasons, Atlanta has had multiple specialists win NFC Special Teams Player of the Month honors (Koo – Dec./Jan. 2022; Thomas Morstead – Dec. 2021). Koo has also made five game-winning field goals over the past two seasons, including two in 2022 (Week 8 vs. Carolina; Week 17 vs. Arizona).
Prior to joining Atlanta's staff, Hoffman served as the special teams coordinator for the Tennessee Titans in 2017. Titans kicker Ryan Succop tied for fifth in the NFL with 35 made field goals and finished ninth in the league with 136 points scored in 2017.
Prior to being promoted to special teams coordinator, Hoffman spent four seasons (2013-16) as the Titans assistant special teams coach.
Hoffman joined the Titans after spending one season as the special teams coordinator for the Oakland Raiders in 2012. In his one season with the Raiders, kicker Sebastian Janikowski posted the highest field goal percentage of his career (91.2 percent) and was perfect (25/25) inside of 50 yards for the first time in his career.
Before his tenure in Oakland, Hoffman spent three seasons (2009-11) as the special teams coordinator for the Kansas City Chiefs. In his first season in Kansas City, Chiefs punter Dustin Colquitt posted the top single-season net punting average (40.8) in franchise history and Chiefs kicker Ryan Succop tied the highest field goal percentage (86.2 percent) by a rookie in the NFL since the NFL/AFL merger in 1970.
Hoffman spent two seasons (2007-08) as an assistant special teams coach for the Miami Dolphins and one season (2006) with the Atlanta Falcons in the same role. In his first season in Miami, Dolphins kicker Jay Feely set a single-season franchise record for field goal percentage (91.3 percent) and punter Brandon Fields led all rookie punters with a 43.2-yard gross average.
Hoffman entered the NFL in 1989 as the kicking coach for the Dallas Cowboys and would spend 16 seasons in Dallas. During his tenure with the Cowboys, Hoffman's specialists set 15 franchise records, and he contributed to three world championships as the Cowboys won Super Bowls XXVII, XXVIII and XXX. In addition to his special teams role, he also served as the offensive/defensive quality control coach from 1989-95, offensive quality control coach from 1996-99 and defensive quality control coach from 2000-04.
Prior to his time in the NFL, Hoffman spent four seasons (1985-88) at the University of Miami as the kicking coach where he coached future NFL punter Jeff Feagles.
