Matt Pees was hired as an Atlanta Falcons defensive assistant on Jan. 23, 2021.
In 2022, Atlanta's defense led the league in fewest penalties per game (1.06) and limited opponents to the second-fewest second half points per game this season allowing only 7.9 points per game after halftime.
Prior to joining Atlanta's staff, Pees spent the 2020 season as the head football coach at Findlay (Ohio) High School.
From 2018-19, Pees served as a defensive assistant and quality control coach for the Tennessee Titans where he worked with the defensive line.
Before joining the Titans, Pees spent two seasons as the head coach at Green Mountain (Colo.) High School and has seven years of high school football coaching experience.
A native of Bowling Green, Ohio, Pees initially walked on at Kent State University before becoming the team's video coordinator.
He graduated from Metro State University of Denver with a degree in history and political science and earned a master's degree in education from Regis University in Denver. He initially pursued a career outside of football but got back into coaching after spending 10 years in the corporate world.
Pees and his wife, Emily, have two children, Wyatt and Adelyn.
