Doug Mallory is entering his sixth season with the Atlanta Falcons and his first as the senior defensive assistant/defensive backs. From 2017-19 Mallory was the defensive backs coach, the 2016 campaign he was the Falcons defensive assistant/defensive backs coach, and his first year with the Falcons was spent as the defensive assistant/linebackers coach.
In 2019, his players totaled nine interceptions, 40 passes defensed, four forced fumbles and two QB hits. Mallory helped rookie Kendall Sheffield go from seeing action in a reserve role during the first five games before becoming a starter for the final 11 games of the season. Sheffield finished the year with 43 tackles (30 solo), and three passes defensed.
During the 2018 season, his players recorded 11 interceptions, five sacks, and one forced fumble. Mallory had a helping hand in the growth of second-year safety Damontae Kazee, who totaled seven interceptions – tied for the most in the NFL.
